I'd like to kick off my 2011 with a hodgepodge of topics.
Literally, a kickoff. I'm off to Bacolod in February to watch the AFC qualifier match between Mongolia and the Philippines. I know I've tweeted this countless of times but I'm so excited that FINALLY football gained buzz in our basketball-loving country. I really hope the Azkals keep winning so that they sustain the energy.
Where is the love? In less than two weeks, three people I know got into a relationship. 'nuff said.
Extra challenge. I've imposed a 'No shopping for things I don't need' rule until March. This is to save up for travel plans I'm cooking up with different groups of friends. Things I don't need means - shoes (I have enough to last me til March, at the very least hehe), clothes (I wear the same colors, what difference will it make if I wear the same stuff) , makeup (who needs another tube of primer or lipstick, or another pan of eyeshadow? I don't. ).
I do have exceptions though like I've had unfinished transactions from 2010 (like a custom made necklace and a few pre-orders from the US) which I will have to settle when I get back. I also need black heels for the ABAM 20th Anniversary party. I did set a budget and plan to use the Sodexo GCs I got for Christmas. Once I finish the GCs, it's game over for online shopping and department store and Watsons hauls for the meantime. haha
UP Naming Mahal. My lil brother Joop made it to Diliman. He's extremely happy and excited because a lot of his friends made it too! He's sort of bad in the 'meeting new friends' part so that was his initial worry about going to college alone. Hello, I entered UP ALONE! No one at all from my high school or grade school. But life, as we know, has its own way of making things fall into place. I met so many wonderful people in my four years in college. Some I befriended, some befriended me, some I was group mates first before being good friends, and some of them were just friends of friends. So nice! I loooove my UP friends!
Anyway back to my brother, before the results came out, I've been praying that he makes it to UP or Ateneo so that he'd live with me. But today we kinda got into a little 'sagutan' when he was telling us over dinner about their officers getting scolded because and applicant for officership hyperventilated chuchuchu. Then I said ROTC officers are natural power trippers. And I guess he kinda hated the fact that I'm generalizing so he said something like 'As if you know them!' And I just said 'Well, I don't but ROTC officers are power trippers in general.' He repeated the same answer, with so much conviction so I figured I should shut up because he's prolly close to the officers that's why he hated my comment.
My point is... if we argue about these things, how much more when we see each other every day? We both have this attitude of 'bagong gising ako, wag mo akong kausapin' and once that's violated, the rest of the day is ruined. Since I'm the older one and it'll be just us two most of the time at home, I'd have to keep reminding him of his responsibilities. How will I make him wash the dishes if he doesn't even wash dishes here in Iloilo? How will I make him do the laundry? He does like to keep the place tidy so I think, if anything, I could leave the cleaning to him.
This is very different from how our older brother Jom and I 'lived'. He stays in a dorm in Taft but he stopped for a sem before moving to CSB so he moved to our house for a while. I don't really remember that sem when he was at home. But I remember that when I do the laundry, he does the hanging of the clothes. When I cook dinner, he does the dishes. When I call for delivery, he's the one who goes out to receive the food. We have trade-offs. He also lets me watch all the TV I want coz he's happy just sitting in front of the computer. He's still like that til now. I guess coz we went to college almost at the same time. And we've had enough fighting when we were kids so naka quota na kami sa lifetime. And I personally think Joop lacks chivalry, or maybe it's part of being the youngest, or being a Gemini and a Dog. (Yes, we kinda follow feng shui.) Note to self: If in the future I'll have a son, I'll make sure he opens the doors for ladies, he stands up when a woman joins or leaves the table, stuff like that. Girls notice little details like that- promise!
Right now I'm hoping dad allows Joop to live with his friends. He can bring them over to the house on weekends- I'd be glad to host but that's it. Maybe if Mom and Dad stays in Manila with us, Joop and I can live peacefully in one roof. But the oldies get stressed in Manila so I have this feeling they'd come over when they feel like it and just leave again when they're feeling the stress. Oh well, I'm sure we can all figure out something by June.
