A message from Senator Gordon

"Thank you for your trust and confidence. The fight for this country goes beyond this day and I am hoping for your continued support in building a Bagumbayan for our people. We saw it begin with the victory today of automated elections which will pave way for true freedom and democracy in our country."

THAT'S MY PRESIDENT! I agree that Filipinos still have a long way in becoming mature voters. We have to stop the melodrama and start thinking for this country. I feel sad the we are AGAIN indebted to the Aquinos. I feel like we don't owe them as much as these people think. Cory reinstated democracy yes. We've paid her enough respect during the rest of her life after her term. It is insulting to intelligence that we still elect officials based on how we feel. I cannot emphasize that enough. But then again if Noynoy Aquino is president, I just really hope he supports the programs that other presidentiables have. Like support for public school teachers - because if we give them enough salary, the best teachers will choose to stay and teach in the country and with that follows a higher standard in education and will hopefully lead to more educated citizens and voters.

Now I just look forward to a better Philippines under the Aquino administration. He has a lot of people to prove himself to. He shared the votes of the 'thinking class' with Gibo and Gordon. Therefore those who didn't vote for him will be following his steps hoping to be proved wrong. I am part of this. I want Noynoy to prove himself worthy of the majority's votes. I want him to exceed the standards I have for my presidential bet. I'd greatly appreciate if he appoints Gordon, Gibo and Perlas into office next year. (As mandated by law, anyone who runs (and loses) for a public position must not be appointed within a year after election.)

I don't want to reach the point where we all start to leave this beautiful country because of frustration with the government. I love the Philippines. But if we continue to vote for the wrong people (okay maybe not Aquino but the senators, or local officials) we will also continue to find ourselves in the shit hole that we are in.

I have to agree with my dad. He says the government should only allow tax payers to vote. Anyone who does not contribute to the economy (those who depend on dole outs and charity) do not deserve to vote because when you look at it, they're not stake holders per se. Stake holders of the country- yes. But stakeholders in the purest essence- no. Even if it sounds discriminating, I believe it's for the better good.

If educated people think for the uneducated ones, definitely we're thinking of everyone's good. But if you live hand to mouth, hindi mo na iisipin yung ibang tao. Hindi mo na iisipin yung bukas, yung sa susunod na taon. It's never long term for the people who live on isang kahig isang tuka. Okay I am already too frustrated I can just go on and on about saying what's wrong with this country. I just really want to see progress- progress that is felt not only in the upper tier of classes. I want progress that will reach the masses. Because when we drive in the streets in our brand new cars and see families with no food to eat, trust me it doesn't feel good.

GO PHILIPPINES! THIS IS IT! (Noynoy, make or break na toh. You don't want a people power against you.)

I'm from UP. And yes, I'm an activist.

There's something about attending UP that makes me so proud. Aside from being in THE best campus, THE center of academic excellence and THE benchmark of achievement in the country, there's really something about the culture that I really really love.

There's so much 'soul' about being a UP student/graduate. We're not detached from reality. We're grounded. We're rooted to the culture of the Filipino. We aren't blinded by wealth or 'coolness'. Let me explain...

It's nine days before the elections and a lot of people on Facebook have been posting their bets and their sentiments about the election. And most of them, as in 98% are my friends from UP. I felt like it's the most normal thing to do.

Siguro there's a little 'tibak' (activist in UP slang) in all UP graduates. It's innate to speak our minds and get involved in things that affect the country and our fellow Filipinos.

I've never heard my contacts from Ateneo or DLSU speak about their bets. Never campaigned for them. Never even posted a single thing about politics. I've had one from CSB- it's not even my brother. A friend is voting for Noynoy because he's a superfan of Kris Aquino. PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO APPRECIATE THAT KIND OF REASONING. I've read about one taxi driver who's voting for Noynoy because he has the yellow sticker. (OHGHAD KILL ME NOW. I don't even know which reason is more pathetic- being a fan of Kris or having the sticker.)

Sometimes I think twice, even thrice before posting or sharing a shout out or political article online. In my mind 'siguro iniisip nila taga UP talaga ako kasi napaka aktibista ko'. It's the stereotype eh. Everyone who's not from UP think we're activists. They think all we do is rally in the streets, scream and fight with policemen.

Of course we, UP people know better. Heck, in UP people from my college (CBA) are perceived to be apathetic towards social issues. No matter what 'outsiders' say, I still believe in fighting for this country. There is no room for alibis at this time. All we have is room for improvement. WE'VE HAD SO MUCH ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT BUT WE NEVER REALLY IMPROVED. It's empty and waiting.

Now let's allow this Dick to enter the room. Maybe then we'll see the change. DICK GORDON FOR PRESIDENT!

(HAHAHAHA Nagets mo noh?)

HOW TRUE?

The following article is from the comments of the link posted below. This requires an open mind especially if you are a voter and is considering a vote for either yellow or green. But non voters are highly encouraged to read this too so you can learn history! Seriously, I'm beginning to doubt the heroic deeds of the yellow family.

AQUINO waste of oppurtunity

On Feb 2, 1989, before PFM died, he called through Imelda VP Doy Laurel to see him in a Hawaiian hospital where the dying President was confined. He gave Doy Laurel a letter addressed to President Corazon Aquino proposing that 90 percent of all his assets worldwide would be given to a foundation in trust for the Filipino people. The Marcos family would only retain 10 percent of those assets. If memory serves, there would only be three members of the Board of Trustees: 1) A representative of the Catholic Church to be appointed by the Vatican; 2) A board member to be appointed by the Philippine government; 3) A third board member representing the Marcos family. At that time, the late Don Enrique Zobel’s name was mentioned. I do not wish to go further since the best evidence is the letter itself of PFM addressed to PCA.

Unfortunately, the messenger of that letter of PFM, i.e., VP Doy Laurel was never able or allowed to see the President in Malacañang. And obviously, nothing came out of it because it was rejected by the President herself and or her advisers. Here’s a direct quotation from President Marcos to Doy: “Please tell Mrs. Aquino to stop sending her relatives. They are proposing so many things, all I want is to die in my country. Tell her to let me come home. I will turn over 90 percent of all my worldly possessions to our people. I will ask only 10 percent for my family. That is much better than her relatives are proposing.”

(Doy Laurel): “I thought of the so-called hidden wealth in favor of the Filipino people on a 90-10 basis that could solve so many of our problems including our foreign debt. It could even unite our nation! Upon reaching Manila, I immediately asked for an appointment with Cory but she would not see me. Here, I was her Vice President asking only for three minutes of her time to deliver a very important message from her predecessor and she would not see me. I was told she was busy.” (See Pages 186-187 of the book Doy Laurel by Celia Diaz Laurel)

I say what a lost opportunity where billions of pesos would have benefited the Filipino people. Now, after about 22 years, where are the said Marcos assets? As some wise guys know, a portion of it went to “trusted cronies” who now claim that they own said properties. Others have been taken over by the new power brokers, cronies, etc., after the EDSA revolution. Are the failed decisions of the old “Laban” the same agenda to be pursued by the new “Laban” in the event that they go back to power? I hope not.

This isn't the first time I heard about the other side of the yellow administration. Read http://www.gmanews.tv/story/183662

Update: Currently reading the four-part GMA report (link above) and breaking them down to simpler timelines and concept maps. If I successfully finish this, will share them here. hahaha I'm doing this for myself- I really wanna know what's up with this hacienda. But will share in case you too would like to know.
