Mommy's day

Spent the day with the whole family at the mall. Mom wanted to try North Park so we had lunch there. She also sent me and Joop to the salon to get a trim. That's where we heard the hilarious conversation I tweeted. hihi

Dinner at Bonchon. :)

Hey you, twenty-two!

I'm a year older! Usually a 'huhuhu' would follow this but I don't see why I should sulk about this. I'm wiser, happier, and crazier. This year's been awesome so far- including my birthday.

Ever since I was a kid, I never celebrated my birthday the way other kids do. I'm a summer celebrator so I can't invite my classmates. I can't hold parties in school too. Back then, we'd hold parties at home. My mom would invite the kids from the barong-barong at the back of the house that we were renting.

In high school my parents would give me money so I can treat my friends to lunch. That's totally fine with me. I get awkward when people hover and sing happy birthday and watch you smile and blow the candles.

In college, the only time I took my friends out for my birthday celebration was on my 18th.

This year was a liiiittle different. Like I've tweeted countless of times, I've been hanging out in the Maginhawa area a lot lately. I love it so much there that I helped three friends to find an apartment so I can crash anytime! haha

My birthday was a Monday so working friends are not available. I had no plans at all except that we have dinner and drinks so the three of us can catch up. I arrived at Pino before Nano and Mau did so I sat there at their al fresco area all alone. Thirty minutes later, they arrived and Nano did a grand entrance by singing happy birthday on his own, out loud for everyone else to hear. KALOKA! haha

After dinner we walked to Delish for drinks. It was a quiet Monday at Delish. Monday is their reggae night but that night, they had a new duo performing. We had weng-weng pitcher for starters. We got another pitcher- Kamikazee this time. A little later Babes, one of our favorite waitresses at Delish, came out from the kitchen with a small cake with a huuuuge cake. Mau, Nano and I have this inside joke about cakes and candles so I immediately figured out what was gonna happen. All I can say is pinagpawisan talaga ako sa surprise nila! hahahaha Crazy people talaga.

After the candle blowing ceremony, they made me sing in front. I couldn't pick a song so the singer Joyce picked 'Get me' by Oleta Adams for me to sing. WHAT IS HINDI KO ALAM? HAHA! I know the song but it was so hard to sing with a live accompaniment. The song ended up to be an instrumental version. hahaha This next song I though I must redeem myself. I picked the classic Buttercup, followed by California Girls. OHA? HAHAHA! I told Joyce and Marie (the pianist) that California Girls will be the last but I saw familiar faces at the door and recognized them immediately. I whispered to Joyce 'Isa pa. Tulungan mo ko kantahin ha, ayoko mapahiya. Anjan yung crush ko.' HAHAHAHA!

Taking inspiration from Caroline of Vampire Diaries, I picked Eternal Flame. OH MY GOD. KINARIR KO NA TALAGA. haha While I was singing, I could see Mau inviting their group over to our table. When I was done singing, they were already seated at our table. WHAT IS HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIBA? I think we shared four buckets of beer and three plates of potato parmesan and onion rings.

I cannot recall everything we talked about but football was a huge chunk of it. It was fun. Really. I couldn't feel my cheeks. I had office on Tuesday but I couldn't care less. That night was perfect as it is.

My wish this year is nothing new. It's always been on my Christmas list, but is always ranked last. I've always thought my other Christmas wishes are more important. Just this once, I'm being selfish. I'm claiming this wish and it's all I ever want to have at this point.

***

A few days ago Mau and I were talking about missing someone so baaadly. I said 'Nafifeel ko na talaga teh, malapit na. Magkikita na kami sa May 16. ITAGA MO SA BATO.' Oh my God. Nagkatotoo. May bonus pa. Ang saya!

This year has been awesome so far. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT MONTHS! :D

P.S. SORRY, NO PHOTOS! :)

Pat's Awesome SARAP Party

Every year in college, at least since I first attended in third year, Pat would hold a huge party to celebrate his birthday. Incidentally, Pat's birthday would coincide with the last day of school before Christmas break so it's pretty much considered as a year ender too.

First one I attended. Pat's 21st birthday, December 2007
21 shots for 21 years

Me, Emm, Miggy, Vicki, and Jon
Anabee,Edge,Pat, Miggy,Jaz, Lori, Cheska

I think most of us went home sober here. I repeat, MOST.

December 2008

This was by far, THE craziest one. Everyone was drunk, I did this synchronized vomit session with Emm and Cheska by the gutter, lotsa glasses were broken, the place was trashed. People crawled to get to their houses. Some slept in their bathrooms when they got home. As for me, I spent the night on the sofa, with a basin on the floor and a pitcher of water. I was vomiting until the break of dawn (no kidding). This party got us banned from the venue for a year I think.

December 2009- I was in Iloilo already so I've no shots of the party.

And the latest one, December 2010.

Early birds Lianne, Vicki, Jon, Paolo, myself and Jewel
We got to try all the drinks first before the crowd started pouring in.

If you noticed, most of the shots were taken outdoors. That's because Pat's Law school friends were busy dancing inside. Grabe yung energy nila, di kami naka-position sa dance floor. But the (almost) traditional STOP by the Spice Girls got all the ladies dancing. We even got the boys to follow suit. hahaha Such a fun song! Universal anthem of the ladies!

The BA crowd spent the night catching up with each other. It's different when everybody's doing their own thing. We all have stories to tell. But it was so much fun I totally felt like I was back in college. And then sometime that night Pat declared it's gonna be a yearly thing. "It's a way to keep in touch" he says.

Can't wait for 2011!

p.s. Ever since I graduated, I never had alcoholic drinks. This was the next time I had some and it was crazy. I knew the alcohol was kicking in coz I couldn't feel my cheeks. When I got home around 3 AM, I prepared myself for bed- brushed my teeth, washed my face, the works. But three hours later I woke up feeling dizzy. I got up to get myself a glass of water only to vomit it when I reached the bathroom. It's so painful when you are vomiting but nothing comes out. Ugh. And so my tweet goes...
Btw, it wasn't exactly a nap. It didn't even last 5 minutes. But I was trying to vomit and it was so painful, I had to squat on the floor and lean on the wall. My eyes were closed because that was 6 AM! haha And then around 5 in the evening, my allergies started emerging. I had red spots on my arms and legs. It happens whenever I have too much hard drinks. But I didn't mind. I was too happy to see my friends. :)

Something Fishy

Yesterday I felt like a fish out of the water.

I attended my friend Ana's birthday celebration at Red Box. Originally it was gonna the usual four of us but lots of her friends from her college (Fine Arts) tagged along which brings the grand total of 11 people. I was the only 'new' person. my friend Mau, despite being from Home Economics, is pretty much part of the group because she's always tagged along in their plans. Plus, everyone knows I'm a serious 'karaoke' girl...meaning when there's karaoke, I expect everyone to sing the songs they picked- and not just mumble or worse, listen to the MTV version. So it got a little bit frustrating when songs would play and no one was taking the microphone.

Poor me, BA girl. HAHA They didn't know I was from BA though. There wasn't any chance of introducing my 'history' to everyone. I made an alibi that I had to leave at 10 because I've got work to do early the next day. But later that night, we were all warming up, food kept coming, and somehow I felt a teeny bit more comfortable so I decided to stay.

In general, it was a good night. It was interesting to be the outlier in a group. Besides, I stayed for Ana. She's a good friend so to hell with being a fish out of water, as long as she's happy because I stayed.

Earlier that night, while waiting for 7 pm to proceed to Red Box, I had an urge to get a haircut. I initially wanted to have it at Tony and Guy but I needed to wait for 40 minutes before my turn so I declined. I went to the usual Acqua and was hoping my stylist is absent so I can try Narry who's been much raved about on blogs. BUT NO. When I entered, I immediately saw my stylist and shempre, nahiya na rin ako, and I need a cut so I proceeded for a cut.

The thing i hate about my stylist Terry is that she'd always always try to persuade me to get a hair treatment. Dai, ikaw ba magbabayad nun? Hello. After finishing touches on my cut, she kept commenting 'Dry yung hair mo, ma'am. May static. Mag treatment ka.' I didn't say anything. It was getting into my nerves na talaga. Just do what you have to do with my hair k? After that cut, I paid and gave they shampoo-blowdry girl her tip. I couldn't find Terry so I left immediately. I would have looked for her and give her a tip- just because I always give one. But this time, I didn't feel any guilt not giving her one. I am sooo moving to Tony and Guy. It's a few hundreds more expensive but if it'll be a peaceful session, I'm willing to pay.

JULIAN!

(Tune in my head: 'bulilit, bulilit, sanay sa masikip' hahaha)

I LOVE YOU TO BITS CUTIE PIE!

I can't believe it's been a year but I'm very happy! I'm excited to see him grow up but he's sooo cute I hope he doesn't grow up too soon. He's like my kid except I don't discipline him. I spoil him. hahaha But yes, like a mom, I've changed his diapers when he pees and poops (hahaha), put him to sleep, play with him, fed him, etc. And like a good ninang, I buy him, what else? SHOES! Awwwww I super love Julian!

Hodgepodge of Whatnots

Yesterday was a crazy day for me. I needed sometime to make things sink in so I didn't blog about it. I'm okay now. haha Here's a brief lowdown of my Monday (June 15).

1. Timmy's Birthday- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

2. Went to the mall to buy my plane ticket and the tote bag I was telling you about in MFG. The ticket system was down so I was requested to come back at a latter time. I went around and dropped by MFG. When I got there, lo and behold the bag was sold out. There was one piece of the white version left but I had my heart on the black one. The only branch with the black tote was in the outskirts of Lucena. GOOD LUCK. I was super sad so I went to National Bookstore to buy a book to keep my mind preoccupied. I got this...
and this...

I officially love Sidetrip Magazine. I plan to subscribe or well, I can just buy in National Bookstore. haha

3. I got a text from (codename) Company A, a huge food company that I bet all of us has tried at least thrice hahaha. They were asking if I'm interested to know about their training program. How can I say no? So yeah, I said yes but waited for their reply. I decided to wait until 5 pm, after office hours for the reply before I buy my ticket just in case I need to move my flight.

4. I decided to kill time by reading Sidetrip at Starbucks. Got my caramel frap and sat in a corner table and began reading. I occasionally looked around just to see what types of people hang out in this branch of Starbucks. Well, this is not the laid back-book reading- laptop toting students that I am used to in the Katipunan branch. These are from all walks of life- nursing people, 'pa-cool' teenagers, med students reviewing, foreigners with their Filipina partners, and  couples having 'coffee' for a date. As a matter of fact there are only two tables with occupants who are reading- that's the two med students on the couch area and myself. It was also a noisy Starbucks. Probably because it was small so the churning of the blenders is audible even from the far corner of the area. The music was loud. In general it was just really far from the Katipunan ambience which I really love.

5. I was very much entertained with my new magazine, straining my eyes and forcing my ears to shut off the buzzes and loud music.  I decided to rest my eyes for a few seconds so I did one of those occasional looking around and there it was. THE BIGGEST HELLO IN MY FACE- A NURSING STUDENT WAS TOTING THE EXACT BAG WHICH WAS SOLD OUT. She even sat on the table in front of me. I was cursing the whole time especially when I saw how pretty the bag is when it's outside the store (you know, eliminate store ambience to see the aesthetics of the bag). Well, I knew I was never gonna the bag so I went back to reading. I left minutes later and decided to go back to MFG.

6. Back in MFG I somehow wished another stock of the bag would appear and forced the sales lady to check again. hahahaha that was how far I'd go. She wouldn't remember me anyway. haha I thought I'd but the white version but it was the last piece and the stitches were worn out- probably a lot of people held it already. So I decided to drop it and forget about the bag.

7. Five pm came and I went to purchase my ticket. After that I bought take home dinner because I was too drained to cook. While waiting for the sisig from Gerry's, I got another text for an interview on Tuesday- that's later this afternoon by the way. hahaha I confirmed anyway even if it meant risking a cut-short vacation. I just said to myself 'Mahaba pa ang week. Bahala na si Lord.'

8. When I got home my brother told me he saw a multo (ghost) outside my room walking toward the sala. He saw it twice taht afternoon daw. The other time was while he was feeding Raffy, the shi tzu. I'M LIKE WTF DON'T SCARE THE HELL OUT OF ME. I was having goosebumps the whole time. My imagination was running wild.

9. Because of the multo, I prayed so hard before I went to sleep. I was curled up in one side of the big bed. I was so scared to spread my limbs (like I usually do) because I was so afraid to feel something. HAHAHA Slept at 1 am. I kept twisting and turning in that side of the bed. By 5 AM my eyes were wide open and I couldn't sleep. Literally gising na gising na ako. It was still dark so I decided to spend my time online in my room. I told myself I'd go out of the room when it's already daylight. I was even able to chat with my brother (who was at the other room lang haha).

10. Now it's 9:30 AM, I already had breakfast and coffee. I am already sleepy. But I can't coz I have an interview this afternoon. I hope tonight I'll have a better sleep. Nothing happened last night. Maybe my prayers worked. I was busy praying I barely had time to sleep.

Whattaday diba? Just when I decided to take a vacation, these calls happen. Sabi nga ni Cheska 'Parang boys lang yan. You'll never know when the'll call.' hahaha I still consider them as blessings. Sino ba naman ako to not appreciate it diba? I just know things will work the way it has been planned for me. But I am sticking to the decision of pushing thru with my vacation- even if that meant letting opportunities pass. Because I think I really need this time to rethink things, reassess my goals and have some 'me' time first. Maybe it's just not for me. hehe

Two Decades and counting

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! I got 56 greetings via ym, text, facebook, and in person. You guys made me so happy today.

We spent the whole day at home. Mom got me an Oreo cake from Red Ribbon, prepared bacon, pancit, turon and calamares just because it's my birthday. (Favorite ko yan lahat! Plus adobo haha) We'll celebrate tomorrow daw- Wolverine movie and lunch out. It seems like as I grow 'older', I tend to like quieter celebrations for myself. This of course does not apply to everyone. Take Aling Dionisia Pacquiao for example. She celebrated her 60th birthday in a debut-ish manner. good job! haha

Lord, thank you for 20 amazing years. I pray that many good things will come at the right time. Thank you!

* * *
I'm so happy to catch up with my high school friends. I plan to visit them in June. We'll all hit Boracay siguro after their board exams. Probably stay there for a few days then fly back here to continue my job hunting. I want to be back in time for Todo Patintero and some other stuff.

Speaking of job hunting...I found this article on JobsDB. It's about WHAT YOU CAN DO WHILE WAITING EMPLOYMENT. Let's see what I've done so far.

1. Research (on your desired industry). CHECK!
2. Read. I have started reading on stuff. But will intensify reading soon.
3. Travel. True, it doesn't cost a fortune to travel around the Philippines or Asia. Ang problema ko ay SWINE FLU at COMPANION. Hindi ko pa kaya mag travel alone- wala akong taga-picture. haha
4. Make an online resume. OH YES, I HAVE!
5. Visit exhibits, fairs and activities. Will do this when I get a chance.

Seems like I haven't done everything mentioned. So how did I spend my few weeks of joblessness?

1. Eating and sleeping. Lessening my guilt with L-Carnitine. haha
2. Malling. This is legwork for me. jeeez.
3. Got my cedula recently. Will get my NBI clearance, TIN number and driver's license next week. I'll be registering for the elections too. I wanna exercise my right to vote. LET US ALL TAKE A STAND AND VOTE!
4. Staying at home and watching over Julian.
5. Job hunting online.

Oh, in fairness productive pero kulang pa. haha I wanna jog but there's too many dogs in the village to run after me. haaaay.

Stand by Me

edit: HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAM! I love you! Mwah! I hope your dream of becoming sikat will come true soon! Go lang ng go!

I got this from Sir Acedera. I always discover so much stuff from the cool links he posts.

I like this rendition. Super galing. It makes one feel a little better about the world. It makes you realize there is still goodness in this harsh life. Enjoy!

The description is from gizmodo.com

This cover of Stand By Me was recorded by completely unknown artists in a street virtual studio all around the world. It all started with a base track—vocals and guitar—recorded on the streets of Santa Monica, California, by a street musician called Roger Ridley. The base track was then taken to New Orleans, Louisiana, where Grandpa Elliott—a blind singer from the French Quarter—added vocals and harmonica while listening to Ridley's base track on headphones. In the same city, Washboard Chaz's added some metal percussion to it.

And from there, it just gets rock 'n' rolling bananas: The producers took the resulting mix all through Europe, Africa, and South America, adding new tracks with multiple instruments and vocals that were assembled in the final version you are seeing in this video. All done with a simple laptop and some microphones.

Long Weekend Topic Dump

Long Weekend nanaman- AS IF I CARE. I don't even have a job. hahaha I just couldn't think of a better title.

Here's another topic dump of the nice things that crossed my mind recently.

1. Camella Homes Ad. It's about time someone uploaded this video. The ad has been out for probably three weeks now and I still love it! haha

"SIKIP"

2. I just got a pm from my college friend/ blockmate Vincent Matias. He's venturing into Wedding Photography and I'm here to support him. Wooot! Vincent took our photos during the 18th Year of ABAM and he did really great.
Here are some of our shots from the ABAM pictorial.

More sample shots here.

For the more discerning and mature markets (like your titos and titas or older cousins), a more experienced photographer is at your service in the name of Robert Lester Aliscad (Robert Lester Photography) - dad of our UP batchmate (kala mo tagal nang graduate eh haha) Roselle. Oh btw, Happy Birthday Roselle! I love you!

Check out their website here.

3. And for the exciting part naman...Tet invited Fa and I (open invitation to the batch actually haha) to visit Cagayan de Oro for vacation. Well, Fa and I haven't talked about this yet but I am sooo happy to have this chance. I've always wanted to go back to CDO (been there yeaaaars back when Dad was still assigned in Mindanao). I wanna try the 4WD, White water rafting and all that adrenaline rushing shizzo. Ghad I do hope I could go.

* * *

In other thoughts...I've been reconsidering my options. I am pretty sure I won't be working this May. Weeks back, I said I wanna start working in June. But life's tough, mahirap mag hanap ng work ha!!! And I'm still happy being a bum. So I kinda reconsidered my time line. Come June and I'm jobless, I will take up a class- whatever that is. If not naman, dun ko na seseryosohin ang pagiging job seeker. Maybe go home to Iloilo first for a few days/weeks. BAHALA NA TALAGA. I don't want to overthink about the future. I'm just really glad my parents aren't cutting the financial support until I get a job. DREAM JOB, PLEASE TAKE ME.

Kayo? Who's got a job now? How's the vacation naman?

Of 21 things

Today is Mareng Fa's birthday! I can clearly remember a few weeks back when I joked to her 'Uuuy, lapit na birthday mo..." And she goes "Hay mare, hindi ko na nararamdaman yun. Di ko na iniisip."

What are we to do? Eh di IPARAMDAM ANG BIRTHDAY NIYA SA KANYA!

After Global Marketing class, Pat comes and drops the bomb. The best bomb to drop? ANYTHING REGARDING HER MOST LOVED CAR.

Something like...'Fa, may gasgas yung car mo. Nakita ko." And Fa mumbles OH.MY.GOD. and starts walking toward the stairs. Great supporting cast includes Emm, Punky, Kyle. Weeeee!

I had to nag Jen na 'Jen Jen baba na kayo, now na! Now na!' Sabay sagot 'Yes ma'am, yes ma'am!' HAHAHAHA Sorry for the pressure Jen!

As usual, Emm is the only cam-ready person here. No 'posing' photos kasi masyado na kami natuwa. haha

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARE! I KNOW YOU HAD A GREAT (twenty)ONE!

P.S.
Benta pa rin ang twenty-one shiny 'pisos' ni Jen! great job!

My 19th Birthday

Happy Birthday to me! and to my dear friend Leslie Huang!

Wholesome part of the day:

This morning I woke up 6 hours after finishing all my Psych requirements. While working on it, I got calls from friends, text messages and had YM windows popping on my screen, all containing birthday greetings. I love the greetings. It is really very flattering.

Anyhooo, my family went to Manila Ocean Park to see marine life up close. hahaha But diving at Donsol with the butandings is still the best experience. Anyway, the place is wide and interesting however the people were stubborn and disobeyed the rule on not using the camera flash. That really sucks. I mean, hello, at that age (parental age!??!?) how can they not obey the rules?!
family pic with the sharks

After the tour, we had lunch at Ozeano, the restaurant inside the oceanarium. Thanks Mom and Dad for the great lunch, educational trip and yummeh cake!

Batch bonding...I shall leave it to the photos. :)

Leslie and I
group shots
Let's not post the jumping jacks ok? hahahahaha So there, the booze was great (snaps for Jave!) and the company was cool. Music was so reminiscent of our clubbing days. CALLING MISTER MIGUEL ECHANIS. COME BACK NOW BECAUSE IT'S TIME TO PARTEEYH.

Here's one funny and unintentional photo...

Emm took this photo. I asked 'Is it nice?' And a tipsy voice said "It's suuper nice as in!" Then Emm shoved the cam on our faces saying 'it's like Gossip Girl." hahahaha

Who knows? Gossip Girl is just around the corner?
There's a new talk in town. Ever heard of practice what you preach? Looks like the preacher quite forgot about that.

One question's for certain...

Will there be a "Stay here and fight" moment soon, just like S and B?

I hope not.

Like they say, don't let anyone catch you with your pants down. Literally.

Kilyawan Boys are so funny

I just got home from the birthday surprise for Rhett at Shakey's. Kudos to Weng for making this possible (funny, na inip si Rhett sa 'meeting' mo, haha). Rhett's family was there. JMA and BAA friends, batchmates of Weng (read as me and Emm), and his friends from Kilyawan. I met two of his choir mates- Marco and Arman.

Marco is really interesting to talk to. Ika nga ni Arman "ANG DALDAL NIYA NOH?" hahahaha

As for Arman, he is one helluva joker! My facial muscles had lots of exercise just laughing at his funny impersonations of their high school professors. He even taught Nica and I the proper way of singing. hahaha He's studying music in UP.

I really had fun tonight. I hope to see more of these guys. Next time para hindi sad si Rhett sa mga ABAM gimiks, sama na sila. Para laugh trip ulet.. HAHAHAHA

Anyhooo...
Happy Birthday Rhett!
From your ABAM Family!
*wink wink*

* * *
It's really nice when you joke and someone tells you 'That made my night'. hahaha at least may higher purpose yung joke. haha :P
* * *
Cheers to birthdays, surprises and laughter!

Here's to the best Mom in the world

mom and cousin gelo

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY!

The person who always believes in me (syempre, anak niya ako. haha)

She allows to me to enjoy life.
(translation: out of towns, numerous sleep overs and late-night partying and bonding with friends.)

She's the reason I am not afraid to take life as it comes. Because she assures me she's always there.

She's the reason why I am kinder and sweeter to people I care for.

She's the perfect Dove image- real beauty- with wrinkles and gray hair. That shows how well she grows with time and how much she's learned and will be learning in this world.

She's my dad's queen and best friend.

She's my kuya's warm blanket. She assures him he'll be fine when things don't seem right.

She's my younger brother's best friend. They watch PBB together just because.

I can go on with this list but it will never encompass the real greatness of my mom.

I love you, Mommy! Happy birthday!
