Cubao-Xperience

I never thought going out in a small group (yes, group of 3 to be exact) would be really fun. It's one of those days when you don't have a plan and you just find yourself sitting in a clothing store in Eastwood, discussing geek-speak while waiting for a size 11 tsinelas to come out of the storage room.
"Bibili kaming slippers, gusto mo sumama?" HAHAHAHA

Today's highlight was a trip to the Cubao Shoe Expo with Fa and Migs.

More than a shopping trip, it was a chance to get to know each other and exchange stories about our dads and their vinyl records, our knowledge about classic Filipino showbiz (the bold stars turned lolas and aiza seguerra, haha). It was a light and lazy day, perfect for some lazy stroll in a nostalgic horse-shoe shaped street. Our first stop was a thrift shop called Old'sCool where we found a vinyl player which still works. And an old de-ikot telephone. We then moved to the antique shops across Old'sCool.
The first shop had a San Miguel Draft beer light which is working. Migs liked it and I'm guessing he will come back for it soon.
The second shop had this Russian binoculars sold for 600 pesos which Mr. Tirona was also interested in buying. Fa and I just looked around, checked out the old but cute little collectibles ranging from Coca-cola bottles, old beer bottles, moldy books and magazines. We found a San Miguel bottle with a porcelain cap. It had beer pa inside! Kuya Ronald (I think that's his name) told us that the beer bottle was manufactured for San Miguel Corporation's 100 years in the business. They also showed us a Coca-cola bottle from World War II. Cool noh?

Oh, one really funny thing happened. Kuya bragged to us about having this energy saving television. It's really old. Old as in the TV with 3 knobs- to switch the local channel, for cable channels and for power/volume. He plugged it and turned it on.
The screen only showed half of the picture. Just the right half of the tv. Sabi ni Kuya "Kalahati lang yung picture kaya kalahati lang rin babayaran mo sa kuryente." Fa and I laughed so hard with Kuya Ronald and Ate Lety (the other lady). I'm quite sure our noise reached the neighboring stores. hahaha

While walking outside, Little Miss heard Lonely Boy saying Astig talaga yung San Miguel bottle. Howell, Santa just might hear you, Lonely Boy. Anyway, we then walked into the shoe stores where I found lotsa cute flats but I was not in the mood to buy one so maybe next time. Anyway, we checked this white gallery that sold action figures like the ones Migs collects and all he could do was look at them and occasionally ask for the price. Fa and I laughed at their lampshade which was a body of a little boy but his head was the shade. The switch was the funny part! It was the kiddo's dingdong! HAHAHA

Finally, we decided to eat dinner. We had beef tapa, lapu-lapu in garlic butter sauce and sole pasta. We all shared since we ordered the ones all three of us wanted to try.

Mauulit pa ba 'to? -Miguel Tirona

Migs: Mas madali ang pang-inom sa isda kesa pang banyo.

Me to Fa: Tanga ba ako o magulo lang siya? Fa: Magulo siya.
Migs decided to translate it nalang to English.
translation: It's easier for a fish to find water to drink than water to pee in. AMFUFUNG TAGALOG.
I suggested that he should never attempt to speak in straight Tagalog.

After dinner, dropped by the gallery that had this big RockEd streamer on its glass window.

I learned that RockEd was established by the family of my accounting professor,Jika David. Oh ma'am, you'll be proud we went to the gallery. haha After that, we went to Vintage Pop where we found taxi signs, a Blair Waldorf-ish hat and more of those de-ikot telephones. They also had old cameras, suit cases that looked really heavy and lots of clocks that are very pretty. The kind guy allowed us to take a photo with the hat. haha One last walk along the thrift shops where Ate Lety pointed the bottle collector guy she was telling me about earlier. Ate Lety said she was supposed to call the mister collector about the SanMig bottle. Fortunately, Santa was quick enough to purchase it first. Hurray! Can I just say...Santa is so mean. Very mean. Yay!

We moved to Gateway mall to grab some dessert because dear Fa promised us dessert to celebrate her 'lost and found' phone.(YAY to you!) While looking for a place to eat, we saw this live band to which we sang along with. hahaha We walked past Starbucks araneta and asked Fa to help me count the glances Migs will be getting from gays and girls. I think she counted more than 7? I caught 3 gays and 3 ladies who took notice. hahaha Razon's halo-halo was very yummy! (Someone really wanted dinuguan.- not me. haha)

We eventually had to decide where we're off to next. I guess the right answer was 'home' but half of me thought I had a little more time to spare. Maybe ESP works because I had a feeling someone was trying to buy time and decided we join Fa to get her phone.
